PERSONALITY:

If we take a look at the bigger picture, Laphicet’s curiosity is very important or even crucial to his development and character as a whole. If it wasn’t for it, he wouldn’t check on Velvet and her companions and heal them after they had found themselves on a shore and, in the result, wouldn’t even get the chance to see the world and learn new things. That is because Laphicet (a malak known as Number Two before meeting Velvet) was simply a tool to one of Abbey’s exorcists, Teresa. Surprisingly, even though he was made to comply with the orders given to him, during one of the conversations between Laphicet and Teresa later on, she revealed that Number Two would often sneak away to the library in order to read books and wasn’t just as obedient as Number One, the other malak that had been serving her. Moreover, in one of the skits, Rokurou points out that Laphicet always look so happy when he’s got his nose in a book, and apparently he has a knack for learning things according to Grimoirh, even such things as ancient languages.

“Velvet gave me a name, and Eleanor became my vessel. Eizen and Rokurou taught me how to live, and Magilou provided lots of surprises and laughs. All of that made me who I am now, and I'm glad for it.”

Once considered a tool, Laphicet receives his new name from Velvet and finds out that he’s not emotionless at all. While he surely is rather withdrawn at the very beginning of the journey, he develops a sense of self soon enough, mostly thanks to his companions. Velvet indisputably had a huge role in his personal growth, but she’s not the only one to inspire Laphicet. The ten-year-old malak idolizes both Eizen and Rokurou not only because they’re older, but also because they’re willing to answer his questions and consider him an equal partner unless they’re teasing Laphicet like older brothers would do. What the young boy finds inspiring is how strong-willed they are, even though they’re so different and don’t always agree with each other. Rokurou is a daemon, while Eizen is a malak just like Laphicet and despite these differences, they can be friends nonetheless. That being said, Eizen, being a similar being, is someone who Laphicet can confide in, especially when he’s having doubts of various nature.

Velvet, on the other hand, is someone who gave Laphicet the chance to stop seeing himself as a mere puppet to the Abbey and was the very reason why he started thinking about who he really is. In fact, at the beginning, Velvet too considered him a tool, but at the same time, malak Number Two reminded her of her late brother, Laphicet Crowe—hence the name she gave him. At some point, however, Laphicet feels quite uneasy and annoyed as he’s constantly compared to her younger brother and even demands not to be called “Laphi” anymore. That’s because he’s someone different, even if he looks just like Velvet’s late brother. Laphicet simply wants Velvet to recognize him as the malak Laphicet, which she eventually realizes and decides to call him “Phi” from that moment on. It makes him unbelievably happy too, as she’s someone very important to him, someone who he’s determined to protect and believe in.

At one point of the story, Eleanor, an exorcist, joins their party and becomes Laphicet’s vessel in order to save him from the malevolence that would inevitably turn him into a dragon. Although their relationship might seem forced at first, Laphicet thinks and speaks of Eleanor fondly and is kind to her, even when the rest of the party is way of her because of her occupation while she takes great care of him and ultimately forfeits her mission to deliver Laphicet to the Abbey as he’s a remarkably strong malak. As the time passes, they start to enjoy the company of one another more and more, and their relationship grows stronger—to the point that Velvet becomes jealous of Eleanor while he’s blissfully unaware of that in the skit where the party goes fishing.

And last but not least, there’s Magilou. While she’s the one to take advantage of Laphicet’s naivety every time she sees the opportunity (telling him that crocodiles that live in the canals are feeding on unfortunate people who get lost there and that he might be next being one of the examples), Laphicet takes a liking to her too, and doesn’t hold any grudges against her because of her endless pranks, even if they annoy him a little from time to time.

Thanks to all these connections, Laphicet finds out his own reason to live and his own creed to believe in. Throughout the journey, he finds himself in various situations, most of them being a whole new experience for him. Yet, he’s always kind and willing to help Velvet and his friends. It doesn’t necessarily mean that he has no flaws, though. All things considered, Laphicet is a ten-year-old boy, even if he’s a powerful malak, and has every trait of a ten-year-old boy. He doesn’t like when others treat him as a child, which is rather childish by itself. Still, he can act surprisingly tough, especially when facing a danger. As mentioned before, Laphicet is also capable of speaking up for himself (when he wanted Velvet to stop calling him “Laphi”, or when Eizen wanted to prevent him from saving Velvet he bluntly told the other malak that he's not a tool, for instance), even if he needs a while to figure out his own feelings or the feelings of others—eventually, he becomes better at it too, even if it makes him come off as a bit selfish sometimes.

All in all, Laphicet’s journey of self-discovery is something that changes him from an emotionless tool to a considerate boy who takes great interest in living beings and everything connected to them—culture, history, and so on. He turns from a quiet, obedient servant to a cheerful, lively and brave boy. Moreover, his relationships with other members of the party had a key role in his development and the interactions he had with different people are something that Laphicet is holding dear.

POWERS: Laphicet is a malak—a spiritual being who can use the powers of nature. Normally, they are invisible to the human eye, save for those people whose resonance power is very high. They don't need to eat nor sleep, and their aging process is much slower than humans. He's using mana-imbued paper sheets in battle, as well as his malak artes. *Note: In low-freuency worlds, he'll be visible to everyone regardless of their resonance.
OTHER: You don’t want to make him angry.

GAME INFO;

MAGIC ABILITY: Size manipulation—this power will allow Laphicet to change his own size as well as the objects he's touching at the moment.
PRICE: His compass
ACCLIMATION: 6. While Laphicet's used to travel around the land, jumping through worlds is quite different—still, he'll be really excited to discover new places and learn new things, especially if the party members are together with him. He's quick to adapt to new situations despite being so young, but he'll definitely keep his home world as well as the people living there in mind.
